How to make...
Tiger Balm
camphor blocks 16.5g
menthol crystals 10g
beeswax 10g
clove oil 4g
cajuput oil 4g
cinnamon oil 4g
petroleum jelly 2g
ammonium hydroxide 1g (optional)
Chop or grate camphor blocks
Melt the beeswax and petrolium jelly in a pot until completely liquified
Remove from heat, quickly stir in camphor
Add remaining ingredients, stir until a consistent mixture is obtained and camphor has melted
Pour into container and leave to congeal
This recipe will make a balm similar to the commercially available stuff. If you opt to add ammonium hydroxide, the balm turns red and adds a little more heat.

Dit Da Jao
arnica blossoms (anti-inflamatory, pain relief)
comfrey (anti-inflamatory, pain relief)
blessed thistle (blood purifier)
goldenseal root (antibiotic, wound healing)
ginger root (circulation, wound healing, pain relief)
myrrh (antiseptic, circulation, wound healing)
sasparilla root (blood purifier)
witch hazel (anti-inflamatory, pain relief)
Weight out equal proportions of all the ingredients
Grind in a pestle & mortar (or electric grinder) and place in a glass jar
Add 4 ounces of dried herbs to one pint of 80-90 proof grain alcohol (eg vodka)
Seal the jar tightly
Allow the infusion to mature for two weeks; once or twice a day, swirl the jar gently to mix up the ingredients
After two weeks, strain off the liquid and discard the herbal residue; pour into smaller glass containers to store
This infusion can be applied as is to swollen or bruised areas, or can be mixed with a thickener (lanolin or safflower oil) and a hardener (beeswax) to make an ointment.

If you are interested in making Dit Da Jow and live here in the UK you
may have found some of the ingredients hard to obtain or illegal to
import. Here is a recipe supplied and researched by Brad Warren.
Remember the reason the Chinese used the herbs they did is that they
were locally growing herbs. If they had lived in the British Isles they
would have used herbs along these lines. Don't be fooled into paying
more for imported herbs.
· 70 cl bottle of Vodka
· Methyl salicilate (Wintergreen oil), don't use linament variety
0.5 oz of the following ingredients
· Lady`s Bedstraw (Alchemilla vulgaris)
· Club Moss (Lycopodium clavatum)
· Cowslip (Primula veris)
· Cowslip Root
· Shepherds purse (Capsella bursa-pastoris)
· St Johns Wort (Hyperricum perforatum)
· Nettle ( Urtica dioica / Urtica urens)
· Comfrey Root(Symphytum officinale)
· Walnut Leaf
You will also need the following
50 grams of pure camphor crystals
50 Grams of Menthol crystals
and access to this equipment
A Blender /food mixer
A sieve
A dark glass container ie wine bottle or similar that can be sealed
How to actually make it
1. Put 0.5 oz of each herb into the food blender and grind until a fine
mix.
2. Funnel mixture into dark glass bottle that has been washed and dried
previously
3. Pour the vodka into the bottle , (and drink what does not fit, hic!!)
4. Put the bottle in warm dark place for 8 weeks minimum and shake daily
5. After a very minimum of 8 weeks pour mixture through a sieve into
another bottle.
6. Squeeze every drop out of the herbs in the sieve into the mixture.
7. Using a small bowl pour the camphor and menthol crystals into a bowl
and crush them up a bit at a time, you can use the back of a spoon for
that. Ensure good ventilation and at all costs avoid exposure to the
eyes or any open wounds.
8. Funnel the crushed crystals into the bottle with the jow and place in
a warm dark place for another 2 weeks minimum.
Remember to massage it into the area to be conditioned thoroughly prior
to conditioning. The massage is as important as the jow. After training
apply some more and do not wash off for at least an hour after.
This is for external use only, do not drink or apply to open wounds
Dit Da Jow can be massaged into bruised or torn muscles and has
therapeutic uses.
and you can buy some ready made stuff here
