Well that was rather fun - a good opportunity to abuse a small selection of new ukes, whilst enthusing about Jiu Jitsu to passers by and possibly even helping KK get some new people into his club.

The festival overall was huge, and I was sorry only to see a tiny bit of it, but it really has just been a weekend when there was so much going on that I only managed to make the Sunday afternoon.

Good to see (albeit briefly) CaptainTau & Fluffy, KK and JW rather more, and a chance to play with some new toys and teachCunningham's walking stick defence, which went down well.

A thought for the future - I think that we can "sell" what we do by having instructors in pairs - one demonstrating, and one narrating to passers by.  We usually have two instructors of a style there, so it shouldn't be too difficult - but we shouldn't lose track of the importance of using it to tell everybody else what we do, rather than just having fun in the fresh air.

G
Wrestle well, skillfully wield spear, sword, and dagger in a manly way. Strike true and hard and rush in - those who understand this will despise the one who defends. (Sigmund Ringeck, C15)

I'm home. Great weekend. Not sure what we actually did appart from play around on the mats and drink beer.

However, my student and I left early to train with Chuck Lidell. Awesome seminar.

Nice to meet, socialise and train with (off the top of my head) KK, JW, Fluffy, thauma, Genghis, JW's parents and Gila.

There'll be Facebook photo's and youtube videos up soon (double shift tomorrow so won't be until at least Tuesday) including KK's radio interview  :o:

Great to meet you guys, and put some faces to the names.

It certainly is a LARGE event, and I must make the effort next year to actually take a better look around.

Ghengis's ideas on pairing and selling are good, as the crowd will stop and look, but don't realy get to find out what we're really doing (and more importantly .... why (fun, socialising and.... jitsu)

Great pitch KK, well organised and laid out.

Cheers

I'm uploading it now. It does sound much better though it's still not great due to crowd noise. I think mine is longer and more complete.

My version.

What happened was:
Radio chappie wandered past and wanted to put us on radio. The original plan was for KK to "throw" him. We decided o-goshi was a safe controlled throw. But he evidently wanted more. What's on this video wasn't planned or rehearsed. It went out live and Gila could hear it being played over the loudspeakers on the other side of the site. Even after the interview, the guy still wanted more. In KK's defence, he showed maturity unlike him here. It was funny as hell at the time.
